THE PROPHET – Dying review

 THE PROPHET – Dying
Independent
Russia is a big, very big country so naturally it has a big metal scene with all sorts of bands. However, I think the majority belongs to the extreme and atmospheric metal genres and I guess the climate plays a pretty important role to mold and shape the mood and direction of the musicians there. THE PROPHET are no exception to this rule and belong to what we call melodic death metal. The band was formed approximately five years ago and has released three full length works so far including this one so we can say that they’ve already found their path, their “calling” and have settled as to how exactly they want to sound. “Dying” is a fine sample of melodic death metal, but not as this metal brand has ended up sounding nowadays… it has the roughness of the early releases of this genre close to how AT THE GATES and DARK TRANQUILLITY used to sound in their very first steps. This is not just it, though, since THE PROPHET also have some thrash and melodic black metal tinges thrown in to add variety and enrich the end result and in order to spice things up even more they have some gloomy and sorrowful atmospheres surrounding the songs. All in all, I think that “Dying” is a fine sample of melodic death metal that will make your head bang and will bring back memories of the early and best, according to me, era of the sound. If you like heaviness and aggressiveness mixed with melancholy and depressive harmonies then THE PROPHET are here to serve your needs…
