SNAKEYES – Ultimate Sin review

SNAKEYES – Ultimate Sin
Independent
There are a few bands with this name out there, but these guys come from Spain with only exception the singer who is from Romania and also plays in the band 9.7 RICHTER (check them out they are really good). This is the debut full length album of the band and personally I have big expectations from a first release, because it shows the talent and the creativity of a band.
THE COVER: On the background you can notice some red curtains and in front of them a cross (it looks like a bit like a Celtic cross) which is covered with snakes. The question that the cover sets is: “is really religion good or is it actually evil?” At least this is my interpretation. No matter what, it is impressive and manages to depict visually both the name of the band and the title of the album.
MUSICAL STYLE: Three simple and yet meaningful words traditional heavy metal that is what you will get here. Actually if I want to be completely accurate there are also some moments that the band flirts with melodic speed and thrash metal in order to make its sound even more aggressive. So, do you like high pitched vocals, screaming guitars and heavy riffs? If yes, then stay with me for a little bit longer.
COMPOSITIONS: 11 compositions and a duration of 49 minutes that scream out how great a band JUDAS PRIEST are (and I will agree with them). Don’t get this wrong, the guys love JUDAS PRIEST but they use them only as an influence and they are not trying to steal from their glory. Actually they have the enthusiasm of the fan and the talent of a musician who wants to add a new aspect to the sound he likes and they are quite successful at that. There are also some moments as mentioned above where the band adds some speed metal elements in the vein of ANNIHILATOR. Also you can compare SNAKE EYES with bands like CAGE (who scream out JUDAS PRIEST too) and PRIMAL FEAR (who also scream out JUDAS PRIEST).
CONCLUSION: A debut album needs to have enthusiasm, great ideas and passion for traditional heavy metal. All these elements combined can give you a release that will make you listen to it again and again. You can find plenty of all these in this album and having listen to it more than a couple of times, I can guarantee you that the more you will listen to it the more you will like it. The fans of traditional heavy metal must listen to it.
