ROTTING FLESH – Infected Purity

have mixed feelings while sitting down to write this review. Not because the
album is bad or the group is inferior to my expectations, but rather because of
the opposite. I have a bittersweet “aftertaste” because I’ve known and followed
this band’s path for well over a decade now and I’ve been able to witness their
evolution and progress that made me realize this is one of the most qualitative
extreme metal bands Greece has to showcase… but on the other hand this has
never translated into broad fame or recognition for ROTTING FLESH… And as I
mentioned earlier it’s a real shame because these guys from Thessaloniki keep
unleashing powerful works and albums that have the potential to stand out, but
they were never given the chance to make the breakthrough they deserve. For
those of you who are unaware let me tell you that ROTTING FLESH were formed in
1992 which means that they are one of the longest running Greek underground
bands and “Infected Purity” is their third official work that comes
approximately five years after their sophomore “6 Enigma”. Now, those of you
who are already acquainted with this band and its music rest assured there are
no surprises here. You should expect the usual ROTTING FLESH style only much
evolved and progressed in terms of both musicianship and songwriting. Those of
you who are now stepping into their world let me tell you that “Infected
Purity” contains twelve top notch compositions that move between death and
black metal. ROTTING FLESH have managed to find the golden balance between
these two genres whilst enhancing them with a variety of other elements like
for example with eerie keyboards, a dark atmosphere, blackened melodies and a
majestic scent that surrounds all their tracks. They have achieved to perfectly
marry together the brutality and aggressiveness of death metal with its sharp,
heavy guitars and its guttural vocals with the ferocity, coldness and extremity
of black metal and all this smoothened and enriched with majestic atmospheres
and dark melodies. If you find what I’ve just mentioned appealing, then do the
right thing and support this band. Recognition is long overdue…
