THIN LIZZY, Vagabonds Of The Western World (1973)

Απ'αυτό ξεκινά η σκληρή τους πλευρά.

Τα Thin Lizzy (1971) και Shades of a Blue Orphanage (1972) ήταν μεν πολύ καλές προσπάθειες μουσικά αλλά για το μεγαλύτερο ποσοστό φίλων τους αυτό εδώ το άλμπουμ με την πίνακα του Jim Fitzpatrick να απεικονίζει το συγκρότημα σε έναν άλλο, φανταστικό κόσμο, είναι η πραγματική αφετηρία της Hard Rock πλευράς των τριών Ιρλανδών. Αυτό μάλιστα είναι και το τελευταίο άλμπουμ που έχουν στην κιθάρα τον Eric Bell, οποίος εγκατέλειψε το συγκρότημα. Brian Downey ντραμς και φυσικά ο ίδιος ο "The Rocker" Phil Lynott σε φωνή και μπάσο είναι η σύνθεση του γκρουπ ως αυτόν το δίσκο. Το κλασικό παραδοσιακό κομμάτι της ιρλανδικής μουσικής Whisky in the Jar (κανονικά ήταν single και δεν υπήρχε στο αρχικό βινύλιο του άλμπουμ) τροποποιήθηκε σε rock ύφος και υπενθυμίζεται ότι οι Metallica σχεδόν είκοσι χρόνια μετά το επανέφεραν στη μουσική "μόδα" στο άλμπουμ διασκευών τους. Το κλασικό The Rocker, τα Mama Nature Said, The Hero and the Madman, Vagabond of the Western World,  Gonna Creep Up on You και το A Song for While I'm Away συμπληρώνουν το μύθο του άλμπουμ.

“Thin Lizzy” (1971) and “Shades of a Blue Orphanage” (1972) were very good musical efforts, but for most of their fans, this album, featuring Jim Fitzpatrick’s cover art depicting the band in a different, fantastical world, is the true starting point of the Hard Rock side of the three Irishmen. This is also the last album to feature Eric Bell on guitar, as he left the band afterwards. Brian Downey on drums, and of course, the one and only 'The Rocker' Phil Lynott on vocals and bass, complete the lineup up until this record. The traditional Irish folk song 'Whisky in the Jar' (originally released as a single and not included in the initial vinyl pressing of the album) was adapted into a rock style, and it's worth noting that almost twenty years later, Metallica brought it back into the musical 'spotlight' with their covers album. The classic 'The Rocker,' along with 'Mama Nature Said,' 'The Hero and the Madman,' 'Vagabond of the Western World,' 'Gonna Creep Up on You,' and 'A Song for While I’m Away' all contribute to the legendary status of this album.
