Μετά την πιο τρελή κι απρόσμενη επιτυχία που είχε το προηγούμενο άλμπουμ των τριών Νορβηγών το At The Heart of Winter ένα χρόνο πριν, θα ήταν άδικο να μην το συνεχίσουν σε παρόμοια μονοπάτια. Οπότε οι κύριοι Abbath σε κιθάρα και φωνητικά, Horgh ντραμς και Iscariah μπάσο κάνουν τα μαγικά τους ξανά κι από τα σκοτεινά δάση της παγωμένης τους χώρας γράφουν άλλα επτά κομμάτια για αυτό το άλμπουμ. Θα ήταν περιττό να πούμε ότι ήδη από το 1996-97 , η Black Metal μουσική ανήκε στο mainstream πλέον, κάτι που προφανώς θα εξόργιζε ιστορικές φιγούρες που έφτιαξαν (η μάλλον επανεφήυραν) το ιδίωμα. Καλώς ή κακώς, οι Immortal αν κι ανήκαν στη πρώτη αυτή γενιά, καβάλησαν το τραίνο του Blackened Thrash και δεν κατέβηκαν ούτε σε αυτό τον σταθμό - δίσκο. Οπότε τα κομμάτια Triumph, Wrath From Above, Against The Tide (In the Arctic World), My Dimension, The Darkness That Embrace Me, In Our Mystic Visions Blest και Damned in Black είναι μία πολύ καλή συνέχεια στη ήδη γραμμένη ιστορία τους.

A Recipe from Darkness

After the most insane and unexpected success of the previous album by the three Norwegians, *At The Heart of Winter*, just a year earlier, it would have been unfair not to continue down similar paths. So, the gentlemen Abbath on guitar and vocals, Horgh on drums, and Iscariah on bass work their magic once again, writing another seven tracks from the dark forests of their frozen homeland for this album.

It would be redundant to mention that by 1996-97, Black Metal music had already entered the mainstream—a fact that would have obviously infuriated the legendary figures who created (or rather reinvented) the genre. For better or worse, Immortal, despite belonging to that first generation, hopped on the Blackened Thrash train and didn't get off at this station either with this record.

The tracks "Triumph," "Wrath From Above," "Against The Tide (In the Arctic World)," "My Dimension," "The Darkness That Embraces Me," "In Our Mystic Visions Blest," and "Damned in Black" serve as a very fitting continuation of their already established legacy.
