To tell the truth, many things in Greece aren't going well. However, whatever does go well is often due to the dedication of a few individuals who are often seen as "fools." An exception to this rule is the Greek metal scene, where bands, in addition to their dedication, seem to operate on a more professional and organized level. This is clearly reflected in the quality of their releases, and HEAVENBLACK is a shining example of this mentality.

HEAVENBLACK is a band that combines dedication with professionalism. Formed in 2014 in Athens, they released their first EP in 2018, giving us a taste of their potential. Now, in August 2024, they return with their debut album, titled "Blindfolded," which we are eagerly anticipating.

The album "Blindfolded" reveals a band that doesn’t force situations but expresses itself creatively when they genuinely feel ready. From the very first listen, the impression I got from their debut is that HEAVENBLACK has managed to blend dynamism, melody, and atmosphere in their sound without resorting to cliché gothic paths.

I would say that their style leans towards modern heavy metal, with moments that flirt with a power metal sound, while their progressive metal influences add depth and complexity to their compositions. Their music is detailed and multi-layered, elements that demonstrate the serious work put into both the composition and production.

Since my words and musical knowledge don’t allow me to be more detailed—and if I could, I fear I might bore you—I am compelled to compare HEAVENBLACK's sound with well-known bands from our scene. Certainly, in terms of their progressive metal and atmospheric moments, they have something reminiscent of EVERGREY and NEVERMORE, but in a more melodic style. When they become more direct, they remind me of the solo works of BRUCE DICKINSON and ROB HALFORD.

HEAVENBLACK is a tight-knit, experienced, and enthusiastic band, and this is clearly reflected in their current release. The chemistry between the members is evident, and the quality of the production showcases their compositions in the best possible way. For me, the standout tracks on the album are "My Insane," "Orphan," and "Clowns," pieces that stand out both for their melody and the intensity they convey.

HEAVENBLACK proves that the Greek metal scene has a very dynamic future, and "Blindfolded" is a testament to the quality and talent that exists in Greece. They deserve our attention and support, and "Blindfolded" is an album that should not be missing from any metal fan’s collection.
