CANNIBAL
CORPSE - Chaos Horrific
Metal Blade Records
This album represents a significant advancement from
"Violence Unimagined", showcasing more robust riffs and solid
compositions. Cannibal Corpse, now a five-piece band, delivers one of the
standout releases of 2023, fully deserving of recognition. Every aspect of the
album feels meticulously crafted, devoid of any hint of mediocrity.
Rutan's presence on this record is palpable,
contributing to an impressive synergy with Rob on guitars. The result is a
collection of tracks brimming with wicked leads and tight rhythms. This release
stands out as my favorite since Corpsegrinder joined the band, surpassing even
the early work with Chris Barnes. Corpsegrinder's expanded vocal range adds a
new dimension to Cannibal Corpse's sound. Despite being predominantly in B-flat
tuning for that signature chunky sound, the album offers a remarkable variety
in its compositions, with each track holding its own. Personally, I sampled the
music before purchasing the CD, and I'm thrilled with my decision.
In my opinion, this ranks among the top three Cannibal
albums in their entire discography, alongside "Red Before Black",
"Torture", and "Butchered At Birth". This latest release is
sure to dominate my playlist, and I'm eager to recommend it to fellow metal
enthusiasts.
The mixing on the album is exceptional, with guitars
and vocals seamlessly intertwined. While Corpsegrinder's screams are somewhat
subdued in favor of guttural growls, they complement the music perfectly.
For those seeking standout releases from 2023, this LP
is a pinnacle achievement for the band. The production quality, particularly
since their partnership with Metal Blade, is commendable, signaling no signs of
Cannibal Corpse slowing down. Overall, I'm thoroughly impressed with this
release and eagerly anticipate what the future holds for the band.
