EVERSIN Interview

Genre: Modern Thrash Metal
Country: Italy
Questions by: Nick Parastatidis
Answers by: Angelo Ferrante (vocals) and
Ignazio Nicastro (bass)
Site: Bandcamp

1. Hello. How are you? How do you feel now that your new album entitled “Armageddon Genesi” is released?

Ignazio: Hi Nick, I’m fine thanks. Well, “Armageddon Genesi” is out since the end of June and I can say we are really satisfied with it. It’s our best album ever, the most violent and complete record we ever made.

2. What kind of reactions have you received so far? Do you feel that people understand what you wanted to do with this release?

Angelo: Fantastic reviews and awesome responses from everywhere. People talk about “Armageddon Genesi” as a masterpiece and this shows that we are on the right path.

3. You are a band that doesn’t rush things since there is a gap of 2 to 3 years between each release of yours. Do you do that on purpose in order for your ideas to better mature or are other elements that extend the time gap between your releases?

I: There is no reason to hurry. An album lasts forever so we need to be sure and fully satisfied with what we put into music. Our albums are various and very different and this happens because we take all the time we need to write and compose new music.

4. If you compare the previous releases with your new one which is the common ground between them and what did you do differently this time and how does it reflect on your album?

A: There are many elements in common between our albums but at the same time they are unique. In all our records you can easily feel our roots and our main influences, all the thrash metal from the nineties, our biggest source of inspiration. Through the years we have built our own personality, our music is very recognizable but there are influences that will always be evident. “Armageddon Genesi” is more dark and violent than our previous albums, sometimes is more “doom”. What you will find on “Armageddon Genesi” is post thrash metal at its best, is EVERSIN at 100%.

5. By the way when you create music do you have the anxiety of creating something original and innovative or do you act more based on your instinct and emotions?

I: We try to create something new following our instinct and the nature of the band. We are a thrash metal band but we don’t care to be the usual thrash metal band which plays like SLAYER, KREATOR or SODOM. We have our own personality so when we write music we follow our instinct and our skill to create something new.

6. Let’s talk about the lyrics of the album. I think that it is a concept one. Am I right? Which is the story that you narrate in each song?

I: Not a concept. I wrote lyrics watching what happens today all around me. War, genocide, politics, religions…All this shit is a plague for humanity. I mixed my lyrics to something taken from the Bible, above all to the St. John’s Apocalypse to create a kind of meeting between the biblical Armageddon and the modern one created by the hand of man. Probably on “Armageddon Genesi” you will find my best lyrics ever.

7. Do the lyrics have to do only with the apocalypse and religion or are they also a commentary of the society we live in?

I: Obviously the society surrounding me influences my way of seeing reality and my way of writing. Every fucking day happens something from which I can easily take inspiration to write a good lyric about. The world in which we live is a shit but at the same time is a perfect bringer of new ideas.

8. We usually characterize the sound of EVERSIN as modern thrash metal but I think that doesn’t reflect your sound completely. How would you describe it to a person that hasn’t listen to EVERSIN so far?

A: Uhm, hard question. Probably the best definition for EVERSIN is groove metal or post thrash metal but even these two labels don’t fit fully our music. EVERSIN plays “EVERSIN Thrash Metal”, no matter if it is post, modern, groove or whatever…

9. Your music is dark and angry, so is there a chance to compose a happy song ever?

I: Never. If you look for this shit you can always listen to power “metal”.

10. You have visited Greece for a live some time ago. Which were your experiences from that visit? Do you consider coming again for a live show?

A: We played in Greece twice in the last two years. The first time in 2016 in Athens as headliners and in 2017 at Chania Rock Fest. We love Greece; we hope to come back very soon.

11. You continue to release albums through My Kingdom Music which means that you are satisfied. Is there anything that you would like your label to change or improve?

I: Uhm, no. Francesco is a very good person and a very professional guy. He knows what we need and he always does his best to promote our music and give us the space we need. Through the years MKM has grown very much and I think this is also thanks to EVERSIN.

12. There are so many releases that bombard the audience each day. What do you think a metal band of our days needs in order to be noticed by the metal fans?

A: One word only: personality.

13. Which is the best comment that you have received for your new album and which one the most bizarre?

I: The best: “EVERSIN sounds like a sort of modern SLAYER, KREATOR and SEPULTURA mixed together but at the same time their music is absolutely unique.”
The most bizarre: “EVERSIN sounds like KORN”.

14. Thanks for your time answering my questions. Wish you all the best. Please add the last lines of this interview…

I: Thanks to you Nick for the support and the nice words you spent on our “Armageddon Genesi”. Talk soon, bro. Greece, horns up!!!

A: Bye Nick, I wish all the best for you and for Behind the Veil. See you soon.
