Well there are bands and artists that transcend all musical genres or if you prefer they combine influences from different musical genres in order to express their ideas and emotions. PLURIMA MUNDI are definitely such kind of α band.  The sextet from Taranto (Italy) was formed in 2004 and in 2009 released their debut album entitled “Atto I” which drew the attention of people who are into progressive rock.  After some changes in the line-up PLURIMA MUNDI felt ready to return in action and so they offer us their sophomore release entitled “Percorsi” (which is translated in English as Paths) which consists of 5 tracks and has a duration of over 40 minutes. So, we can easily say that it is a full length release.

“Percorsi” is indeed a strange album and something that personally I haven’t listened to before. It is a release that can’t be tagged under a specific genre and this makes my work difficult, but also pleasant. Ok, I am fan of heavy metal music but from time to time it is nice to listen to something interesting that doesn’t involve metal. So, the opening track like “Eurasia” which is over 10 minutes captured my interest immediately since it is a mixture of classic and folk music elements and there are also a few strong rock touches too. Generally the piano and especially the electric violin are the instruments that characterize the sound of the band, which create a melodic music that has an adventurous and even travelling feeling. The band emphasizes on the instrumental part of their sound, but also uses lyrics in a way that underlines the artistic value of it. As for the rock elements, I think that artists like Richie Blackmore, PINK FLOYD, GENESIS and YES have strongly influenced the group.

“Percorsi” is a very unique and original work that needs your attention and time in order to fully understand it. It is a music that carries the magic of a soundtrack and the dynamic of rock music. So, if you are into progressive rock, then here is your chance to listen to a group that expands the borders of this genre.
