MONUMENT – Hellhound Review

MONUMENT – Hellhound

Rock Of Angels Records

There are so many bands in our days that are influenced or even reproduce the sound of the N.W.O.B.H.M. movement, but only few come from the country where this sound was invented. However, quality does not hide in quantity, but vice versa and it seems that MONUMENT from London, England are very ambitious and interesting representatives of that sound.

Having followed the career of MONUMENT so far I can say that it is a band that doesn’t simple reproduce the N.W.O.B.H.M. sound, but they also give to their influences their own personal interpretation and they deliver a sound that is familiar to our ears and yet fresh and original.

“Hellhound” is the successor of their previous full length albums and musically continues from the point that the previous album left us. To be more specific the band once again delivers melodic and yet dynamic heavy metal that has its roots to the teachings of bands like IRON MAIDEN, SAXON and GRIM REAPER. Actually the voice of Peter Ellis sounds to my ears like a mixture of Bruce Dickinson and Tobias Sammet that fits perfectly to the sound of the group. In their new album though MONUMENT pay also a tribute to the German metal sound and more specifically to the inventors of pirate metal RUNNING WILD with the great opening song entitled “William Kidd” which will also be released soon on 7” EP.

The new album of MONUMENT is once again a very enjoyable heavy metal album that has catchy melodies, memorable riffs and above all variety. It is an album that I can recommend to any fan of traditional heavy metal without any second thoughts.
