INCARNATE – Hvman Svffering
Cold
Church Studios
Here
in Greece we say that sometimes an obstacle can lead you to good results and I
think this is what happened to INCARNATE from the Netherlands. The band wanted
after their 2011 full length release entitled ““Hands of Guilt / Eyes of Greed”
to work on an EP release, but they put this project on hold because their
singer left the band. INCARNATE decided to focus on composing songs and in
August 2014 the vocalist Martijn Geelhoed (ex-REMAINS) joined the band and in
the summer of 2015 the band entered to studio to record this release that I am
about to present to you.
This
EP contains 3 songs if you buy the limited 7” vinyl edition and 4 in the limited
cassette tape edition. I would propose you buy the tape edition because it has
all the compositions that are really cool, but this is a matter of taste and
choice. The musical genre of the band can be described as death/thrash metal
that involves some strong brutal metalcore breakdowns. The band is really a
riff machine gun that takes you by force from the first moment. Although they
are a death/thrash metal band INCARNATE also have a good sense of melody that is
put in use in order to give variety and make their songs catchy and noticeable.
Besides that the leads and solos also give character to the release because of
their technical level and also because they are used in a substantial way and
not to show off.
This
is a release that every fan of the bay area thrash metal scene will enjoy. I
think that there are elements in the sound of INCARNATE that bring to mind
bands like SLAYER, SEPULTURA, AMON AMARTH (just listen to the song entitled “44
Days of Hell”) OBITUARY, EXODUS and so
many other bands of this style. The interesting part is that the band has nice
ideas that give fresh air to their compositions and make you listen to them
again and again.
Lyrically
now the compositions have to do with themes of destruction, war and in general
depict the brutality of the animal called man. I think that they are the kind
of lyrics that fit perfectly to their sound.
All
in all, I can say that this is an EP that I enjoyed very much and listen to
again and again. It has very good ideas, a dynamic and clear production that
enhances the brutality of the band’s sound. So, go for it….
