MINOTAURUS – Insolubilis Review

MINOTAURUS – Insolubilis
Limb Music
Minotaur was the beast which lived in the Minoan labyrinth and was killed by Theseus. It is a monster that has inspired many artists and amongst them also metal musicians. Amongst these musicians are the German metallers MINOTAURUS who apart from their band name their music has little to do with the Greek tradition.

Tradition though is strong in the way that the band crafts its sound since they mix their melodic heavy/power metal influences with strong folk elements that mostly have a Celtic origin. Obviously it is something that has been done many times in the past, but MINOTAURUS were one of the first bands that mixed power and folk metal since they exist from 1994, but the most important thing is that their compositions sound fresh and make you want to listen to them again and again. Another thing that makes them stand out is the catchy melodies they create and the good balance they keep between heavy metal and folk music.

It is an album that fans of bands like early ELVENKING, late SKYCLAD and SKILTRON will enjoy to listen to. Finally I want to say that I liked their cover which could easily be on a fantasy book cover.
