TAMOANCHAN – Tlamatinime EP Review

TAMOANCHAN – Tlamatinime EP
Sepulchral Silence
This is a solo project of the Mexican musician Dámaso Salazar, also member of the bands CAMAXTLI YOXIPPA & CABRACAN who play folk death metal (have this in mind). In the fall of 2015 Damasco came with the idea or inspiration if you prefer to create a sound that will fuse the old traditional music and rituals of his country with doom and even stoner metal. The final effort of his inspiration you can find in this album which I am about to present to you.

Personally speaking I was always in favor of bands and musicians that try to combine metal music with the folk sounds of their country, after all ROTTING CHRIST do the same thing here in Greece. The doom metal mainly and the stoner rock sound (especially the one that combines psychedelic elements) have in my opinion a strong ritualistic basis and can be used in order to create the kind of music that Damasco creates and plays here.

So, in this album you will listen to a sound that incorporates doom/stoner music with ethnic/folk tunes and shamanic chants. It is an album that also has a lot of psychedelic references and because of all that manages to travel you back in an era before the Spanish invaded the new world.

I know that this is a difficult album to comprehend at once, but it is an effort of a musician that put his soul in it and I think that the more you listen to it the more you will like it. Anyway it is a good and original effort….
