EXISTANCE - Breaking the Rock review

EXISTANCE - Breaking the Rock

Black Viper Records
We have already said it too many times that old school metal is the new thing. However, it doesn’t mean that only by playing 80’s metal you become instantly good. No it needs to have originality and passion to convince the listener that you are really into what you play and personally speaking there are few bands that can do that.

I had the chance to follow the career of EXISTANCE from their debut album under the same name (although the band considers it as a demo) until now. It is a band of young musicians from France and musically they move on the sound of 80’s traditional metal. I would say that their influences come mainly from the British sound and are amongst bands like IRON MAIDEN, JUDAS PRIEST and SAXON. There are, though, sometimes and especially in their new album that they reminded me also a bit of good old ACCEPT.

In their new album all the elements that made them recognizable are here. The band has catchy melodies and very detailed lead and solo guitar parts and of course a singer that has an expressive, clear and dynamic voice. I also liked the song “Deserve Your Love” which is a commercial song that sticks into your mind from the first time that you listen to it. Above all, though, the band sounds very natural and shows a true love and deep knowledge for the 80’s metal sound and all these elements give a sense of freshness and originality to this release.

I will close my review here and I have to say that in their third album EXISTANCE give us their more mature work so far without losing in energy and passion….
