MISTEYES – Creeping Time review

MISTEYES – Creeping Time
Maple Metal Records
MISTEYES is an Italian band that has been active approximately four years and during this period they’ve managed to make quite a few changes, the most important of which is the shifting of their musical direction. By acquiring a female singer and adding and enhancing the role of the keyboards they’ve turned towards a more symphonic gothic sound rather than their earlier melodic death/black metal approach. So in 2016 they felt ready to unleash their debut full length titled “Creeping Time” that clocks in over an hour and contains twelve original compositions.

Like I mentioned earlier their sound can be easily categorized as symphonic gothic/death metal or as the band eloquently describe as “light and dark metal”… this is pretty accurate although a bit vague since it contains the essence of MISTEYES’ music. The female operatic vocals along with the keyboards and the dark atmosphere create the gothic aesthetics and the more symphonic approach, whereas the heavy rhythms delivered by the guitars and drums combined with the death metal growls deliver and underline the melodic death metal side of the music. Another advantage that is intimately linked to the variety this album has is the fact that each song consists of all those elements with one leading the way and then leaving space to the rest to evolve and show their beauty. To put it simply this is an album that flows, an album with an excellent production and many famous guest appearances like those of Björn "Speed" Strid from SOILWORK, Nicole Ansperger from ELUVEITIE, Roberto Pasolini from EMBRYO and Mattia Casabona from ASPASIA.”Creeping Time” is an album that the fans of symphonic gothic/death metal will definitely find appealing and enchanting.
