GLORYFUL Interview

 Genre: Heavy Metal
Country: Germany
Questions by: Nick Parastatidis
Answers by: Adrian Weiss (Guitar)

1. “End of the Night” is the third chapter of the band’s history and will be released soon. So, how do you feel about it? Which are your expectations from this release?

The production of the album has been completed for quite some time now and we are very eager to get it out to the public. Of course we are very interested in the reactions and opinions of our fans and the press.
For sure this album has our best songs on it to date, and hopefully everyone else will be of the same opinion.
Of course we also hope to broaden our fan base.

2. Is your new release a concept album too? Do you continue the story that you started in your debut release? If yes will you continue the story in the next releases of yours?

Yes, “End of the Night” follows the path of Captain McGuerkin to avenge the loss of his life and that of his crew to the loathsome Sedna who's dwellings were also featured on the previous albums.
The lyrical concept of the next album will possibly continue to follow Sedna's path, but may also cover new areas. This remains open at this point.

3. I wonder if you listen to your new release immediately after you finish it or do you give it some time before listening to it?

While recording and producing an album obviously you're constantly listening to it in its various stages of completion hundreds of times. I personally tend to listen to albums I'm involved in as a whole about a week after final completion. Knowing that it is now a finished product I then can let go and listen to it without constant analysis of every note and riff and sort of enjoy it as a whole. But after that I don't listen to it until it is released.

4. Is there anything that you would like to do differently, now that your album is finished?

We are very happy and satisfied with the outcome of “End of the Night”.
But sure, there are always many details that one thinks one could have performed, arranged or mixed better, but one thing all of us have learned over the years is to be able to let go at a certain point and say: this is the way it is and it's fine. Because after all it's all Rock'n'Roll Roll, right?

5. I know that imagination is a vast field, but realism always comes to put a limit to it. Did you make any compromises in the creation of your new album? If yes, can you explain to us what kind of compromises you’ve made?

Well, of course - like most other bands - we work on a tight financial budget. And since all of us have plenty of other things to take care of aside from the band we have to apply effective time management.
So our key question is:
How can we make the best possible album with the amounting of time and money we can invest. And with everyone in the band giving 100 % it is possible to reach a very good result. That is the most important thing in any production.
And on that basis there are no compromises.

6. Are you a band that works based on a plan or do you confront things as they come day by day?

Well obviously the music world works according to its own logic and many things happen on short notice and can't be planned. For instance festival and tour offers often occur spontaneously and the flexibility of the band becomes an operational asset.
But aside from that of course there is a big picture and a mid and long term planning. That is also very necessary; otherwise many basic aspects would not work out.
7. I like the use of violin in your new album. How did you come up with the idea? Do you plan to extend and introduce some folk elements in your next releases?

Since we are all fans of European ‘80s and ‘90s metal a certain amount of folk attitude has snuck in on all of the albums. Usually it is Johnny who comes up with this type of song on his own and it always seems to work, so I'm sure there will be more of this type of song writing in the future. The violin by the way was performed by our friend Detty of BLACK MESSIAH.

8. Which other new elements have you introduced to your new album?

I believe on “End of the Night” we were able to continue to develop our own style of writing to a great extent. For sure there is more epic metal to be heard, especially in the choruses, in which actual choir arrangements were conducted and recorded with a group of prolific befriended singers.
Jens and I tried to add a dramatic and emotional edge in our leads and solos to compliment the solemn tension of Johnny's vocals. These aspects work together very well on this album I believe, even more so than on the previous albums.

9. I see that “End of the Night” will be released on 26th of August, a day that RUNNING WILD will also release their new album. Are you afraid that this might hurt in a way your release?

There is rarely a 'perfect' time to release an album and as I said we're strongly anticipating to finally get it out there, so: No, we are not afraid. We are made for metal and RUNNING WILD can pick a fight any time they want! :)

10. Are there any known metal musicians that you would like to cooperate with in future releases of yours? Can you name them?

Oh, yes. For sure it would be awesome to feature a vocal duet between Johnny and Joacim Cans, Hansi Kürsch or Jeff Waters - maybe even a triple guitar battle with the latter!

11. Which metal albums do you listen to these days the most?  Are there any new releases that you would like to recommend to us?

You might want to check out our friends of eastern German power metal band VICTORIUS who are about to release a new album in early 2017. We have shared stages with them on several occasions and they are really cool guys and a great band.

12. Thanks for your time answering my questions. Hope you visit Greece for live shows (actually you can skip Athens and come to Thessaloniki  ). Please put your own epilogue to this interview….

Thank you for your interest and support. We definitely would love to come to Greece one day and I'm pretty sure it will happen! All the best and continue enjoying “End of the Night”!
