ELM STREET - Knock 'Em Out... with a Metal Fist review

ELM STREET - Knock 'Em Out... with a Metal Fist
Massacre Records
In a time when the bands are pushed to release albums one after another, without leaving the metal fans the necessary time to enjoy a release, it is nice to see a new band like ELM STREET who do not rush to make their next move. Their second album, which I will present here, comes five years after their very good debut. In the meantime of course they have also released an EP the songs of which are contained in this release.

One might ask why I give so much importance in the time between releases. I personally believe that you can’t force the inspiration and release every year an album while at the same time you play concerts. The time is necessary for the musician to clear his/her mind and be able to absorb better his/her influences to his/her own style. So I was glad to see that the ELM STREET managed to do exactly what I mentioned above.

Their sound can be described as classic heavy metal, but unlike many young bands, they not reproduce the sound of the 80's, but draw inspiration from it. Also the vocals, which some of the listeners might not like, give the music of ELM STREET a wild/aggressive aspect and I would say that almost flirt with the thrash metal sound. An experienced listener will recognize among their influences bands like ACCEPT, JUDAS PRIEST, IRON MAIDEN and METALLICA. They manage, however, to incorporate these influences into their own style and display to us their own recognizable sound. Proof of the band's progress is the 11 minutes song entitled “Blood Diamond”.

ELM STREET show they came to stay and they released an album that the more you listen to, the more you love it. I hope to see them again live in Greece, because they are really good on stage. It seems that on ELM STREET besides nightmares you can also find good heavy metal music…
