The
idea of good and evil has preoccupied humanity since it started using its logic.
It is a matter of philosophical - religious interest, but it mainly influences our
daily life. In their new release DISTANT PAST deal with this theme and present
their own ideas without guiding us, but leaving us to draw our own conclusions.
According
to me the biggest part of concept albums are usually tedious and you cannot
listen to individual songs from them. There are few exceptions. With this in
mind, DISTANT PAST created compositions that serve the basic story of the album
but also stand by themselves. In a few words they have a mentality close to
that of IRON MAIDEN when they were creating the “Seventh Son of a Seventh Son” album.
DISTANT
PAST is a group that substantially progresses in each album they release. They
are not interested in cheap sensationalism, but they incorporate musical elements
that do not alter the character of their sound, but they rather enrich it. And
most importantly they sound fresh, although they have influences coming mainly
from the 80's. In their new CD all the classic heavy metal elements we loved in
this band are present, which are the catchy melodies, the stable and precise
rhythm section and generally their reliable performances, but they also
introduce several speed/thrash metal elements that make this release sound
aggressive and melodic at the same time. Add to all this the very good
performances of the singers Thomas Winkler (GLORYHAMMER) and Jvo Julmy and you
have an album that you will not be able to resist.
I
will conclude here by saying that DISTANT PAST in this album have surpassed
themselves and offer us their most meaningful and mature album to date.
