ARMONITE – The Sun Is New Each Day review

ARMONITE – The Sun Is New Each Day
Independent
The story of ARMONITE is something worth to be mentioned and I will mention it in few lines. Paolo Fosso and Jacopo Bigi were friends since their teens. Actually in 1996 and after they had played in many local bands and a variety of musical genres they decided to create ARMONITE in order to realize their own musical vision. In 1999 they released their first album while they were in college. However at some point the good years of being a student in a college ended and each one decided to follow a different path in their work career which also had to do with music. This event was the reason to split up.

The bug of creativity though is a persistent one and after 15 years the 2 friends who have matured in the process both as musicians and people decided to bring back ARMONITE because they had more things to express through this band and of course its music.
Ah their music now, I feel it is something that you have to experience because the words written here won’t be fair. I will try to do my best though. It seems that the experience of the 2 musicians in a variety of musical styles has affected the way they create their songs. The 9 songs included here are all instrumental, they have a rock foundation, but above that the band creates an amalgam of sounds without ever moving away from their target which is to create music that can be enjoyed everyone and not only by those who know about music.
So, you will listen here from oriental melodies, to some folk, blues and even classic music references. The magic though of their sound is that it somehow becomes visual. It interacts with the listener and makes him imagine things. For example in the song “G” as in Gears” they made me think of gears that you can find inside a wind-up toy. Also the song “Insert Coin” reminded me of the era when we were kids and went to arcades and played games like pacman, double dragon etc (this one really has an 80’s feeling).
ARMONITE manage to create something beautiful and original here by using music only. Their songs have a narrative dynamic and enable the listener to think, feel and imagine things.
