CELLAR DOGS were formed in 2012 in Athens and their musical style can be tagged as heavy rock with lots of grooves. “Jackhammer” is the title of their debut album which they have released on their own and it doesn’t leave you with any questions of what exactly they want to do with their music.

THE COVER: It is quite simple although I can’t really understand if it has any hidden messages. On a white fond you can see a plug like the one that we use to connect our earphones with the stereo (or something like that). Also you can see the name of the band and the title of the album with huge orange letters. It is actually a straight forward cover as it is the music of the band.

MUSICAL STYLE: Grooves is something that BLACK SABBATH used a lot, amongst other artists of their era, but after them many bands have evolved it or given their own feeling to them. CELLAR DOGS have a sound full of grooves, but also they do have a lot of hard rock and blues elements. So, next to their modern heavy rock orientations you can listen to parts that bring to mind Jimmy Hendrix or even RAINBOW. I think that this combination of elements is that gives variety to the whole album.

CONCLUSION: In a debut album you can never hide your influences, but also you can show if you have character and the ability to reinvent the good old sound or even give something fresh to the listener. CELLAR DOGS don’t feel comfortable to just copy the big names that have influenced them, but they do try and succeed to give a fresh album that has the necessary rock ‘n’ roll attitude that can make it attractive to the fans of this genre.
