ACID DEATH Interview

1. Hello! How are you? How are things in the ACID DEATH camp at the moment?

Hello! Thanks for this presentation! Things in ACID DEATH's camp are really fine! We are working for promoting our new album, waiting also for the re-releases of "Pieces of Mankind" and "Random's Manifest"... arranging the next live dates... there are many things that have to be done!

2. Before we start talking about your new release, I would like to know which the reasons that led you to disband were and of course what motivated you to revive the band.

Well, back in 2000... Things were hard, really hard! The band was active from 1989, working for 12 years under really heavy circumstances. Driving a heavy metal band in Greece that period was something like a small "miracle". We had 4 official releases till then, working under real pressure. After 12 years the results from this heavy work were rather poor, the band had a rather good name in underground but most of the people especially in Greece gave really low attention to what we had done...The inner problems were a daily fact and from a point on the band lost its interesting in creating music... So things stopped violently in 2001. 10 years later, solving at first the inner problems that were haunting us those days and with two new members in the team ACID DEATH was back again. Now we are happy that everything works fine, we are a team first of all and continue from that point we stopped back in 2001.

3. Why did you need 2 years in order to create your new album “Hall of Mirrors”?

Well, actually it isn't such a big time for creating, keeping in mind that the band's style isn't let's say "the most easy in the music-world". From December 2012 that we typically finished the "Eidolon" live appearances we started working on new songs, something that finished in August 2014. We spent almost 10 months in studio recording, mixing and mastering the new album and everything finished in May 2015.

4. Which are the new elements that you introduce to the sound of ACID DEATH with “Hall of Mirrors”?

To begin with it is an album that has been created from "blank screen". Everything in this album is created in recent time, something really important because everyone has a clear view on what ACID DEATH is this period. The album sounds really fresh, technical and powerful. We strongly believe that his is the most complete recording we have ever done and everyone can find interesting elements in it.

5. Were you forced to do something in order to complete the album? I mean things that you would have done differently if you had more time?

No, definitely not! We had enough time to process everything without any pressure. For sure the entire process was a real celebration for us, a celebration that took 10 months!

6. Mirror is an object that human people like and fear too. What does mirror symbolize to you and why did you choose it to use as a title for your album?

Yes, you are right! In our case "Mirror" is the "item" that shows what you are... The story has to do with a madman who tries to escape from his nightmares. It could be the central idea of the entire album's concept, that's the way we chose it.

7. How did you ink a deal with 7hard Records? Why didn’t you continue with your previous label? Are there any other labels that wanted to release your new album and why did you choose 7hard?

Well, we were on the way to release the album on Noisehead Records, that had released "Eidolon" in 2012. Also there was an agreement for mixing/mastering "Hall of Mirrors" at Noisehead's studios in Austria by its CEO. Things worked really bad for them they had to close the label, the studio etc... So we had to look for a new deal. 7hard Records was one of the 7 labels that would like to sign us. We had a good conversation with them on all levels they were clear and most of all they showed that they loved the album and the band. So we signed a 5 year deal.

8. The band exists from the late 80’s which means you have lived a big era of the Greek metal scene. Based on your own experience I would like to know what stayed the same and what has changed in our metal scene. Where do you think we need more improvement?

Well, the truth is that things are totally different from the early 90's. To begin with there is a big improvement of musicians, something that everyone can see hearing the recent recordings from bands that work today. On the other hand the fan reaching, the way of promotion, the communication between bands and fans have been getting on a new level as the Internet is a daily part of our life. Things are going to be better day-by-day, I am sure about that. There is such progress that even the "traditional" countries that support heavy metal are on the way to keep their eyes over Greece to see what will happen! They see that the Greek metal bands have quality, something that it's true.

9. In the recent past there was a rumor that there is a certain prejudice against Greek metal bands from labels and managers. How true is this? If it were true to which point do you consider that this prejudice was justified?

Yes, this is true. There was a serious prejudice against Greek bands, something that had to do with the way that the Greek bands were working. As I can see things are changing. There are many independent labels, promoters etc. that have cooperation with Greek bands and they are really satisfied with the results.

10. Are you afraid that a day will come that you will not be able to create?

Well... Everyone has such a fear...

11. By the way being a musician and of course a metal fan, does this affect the way you listen to metal music?

Always! I am sure that this happens to every musician. When you create you think you can judge. It is really important to be a musician when you create and a fan when you listen. Not easy of course...

12. How have the press and fans accepted your new album so far? Which was the best comment that you have received so far and which the most bizarre?

We are more than happy to see that the reviews and comments we receive are in most of the cases more than positive! Even from "difficult" reviewers who are really strict by tradition. We hope this to continue in the future...

13. Usually you receive pretty much the same questions from different interviewers, so how do you find the strength to reply? If it were me I would be bored to death hehe

Hahaha! That's a part of a band's "duties"! We've never refused to answer interview questions and we will never do such a thing!

14.Thanks for your time answering my questions. I wish you the best of luck! Please close the interview in any way you like…

Thank you very-very much for this presentation! “Hall of Mirrors” is here, waiting for its chance. You will love it, that's for sure!!
