OYLOKON – Life Belongs to Death review

OYLOKON – Life Belongs to Death

Independent
This must be the weirdest or if not one of the most unique monikers I’ve ever come across. I don’t have the slightest clue as to what it means or where it derives from so let’s move on to fields I’m more familiar with. OYLOKON is an Italian based trio that is here to deliver with their debut full length work a blend of thrash with death metal in the old school way. I think this sentence says it all as to what you should expect to listen to on “Life Belongs to Death”… twelve compositions of relentless head banging filled with nice grooves and plenty of references to SLAYER; it has sharp riffs and a solid rhythm section while the vocals are harsh growls that go very well with the rest of the instruments. Add to the above some nice dark melodies and some eerie, gloomy atmospheres and you have a pretty complete idea. “Life Belongs to Death” doesn’t contain any innovations or modern elements… how could it? It’s old school like I mentioned earlier with some melodic death metal touches, so it’s not addressed to people who are after novelties or weird music patterns. OYLOKON are here to please the needs of those of you who are into the first era of death and thrash metal bands that like pure and honest music and want to bang their heads till the end. If you belong to this latter category then make sure you give these Italians a try!
