It is not rare to see different forms of art influence each other. This is actually a very usual phenomenon in the heavy metal sound. AVORAL from Italy who were born in 2011 draw influences from the epic and fantasy literature and they transform it into notes and lyrics.

THE COVER: It is really nice to have a cover that gives some hints about the kind of music that the band plays and I think that the cover of “War Is Not Over” makes it clear about what you will listen to here. It is the image of an underground ancient temple; the kind of image that you expect to see in books or movies like Lord of the Rings. So, the cover without being something extraordinary looks good and fits the sound of AVORAL.

 MUSICAL STYLE: The sound of AVORAL in a few words can be described as epic power metal mainly influenced by the European metal sound. However, the band doesn’t hesitate to combine in its sound other metal styles as well in order to achieve the perfect for them result which is no other than make the listener get deep into their music and lyrics. So, along with the traditional heavy/power metal elements you will notice strong folk metal touches and some almost melodic death and black metal outbursts (such an example is the song “Unwanted Treason”). The band has quite a personal sound, but I think comparisons with BLIND GUARDIAN and their compatriots HEIMDALL can’t be avoided.

COMPOSITIONS: The 7 songs that are included here are well crafted and have a variety. Also they are well orchestrated and a bit complicated. This means that “War Is Not Over” is an album that you have to listen to thoroughly and more than a couple of times in order to let it grow in you. The fact though is that the band manages to drug you into the world of fantasy that they build with their music.

CONCLUSION: I think that when a band manages to achieve what it wants with its music and in the case of AVORAL to make you travel into fantasy worlds, then the result justifies them. So, AVORAL managed to make my mind escape from our reality for the 41 minutes that is its duration and that makes this release interesting to say the least. They might not bring something new in the power metal sound, but on the other hand they are not so predictable and they have some original ideas. I think people into this kind of music will enjoy this release.
