EMERALD SUN – Under the Curse of Silence Review

EMERALD SUN – Under the Curse of Silence

Fastball Music

The story of EMERALD SUN goes back in 1998 when they started in Thessaloniki, Greece.  In 1999 they introduced themselves as a talented and full of passion power metal band which made me believe that these guys deserved to move on with their career. After all on stage they have always given very convincing performances. So, I am really happy to see that they still have the same passion for metal music and they still fight and create new songs. I think this warrior spirit they have resulted in the release of their fifth full length album from the German label Fastball Music which carries the title “Under the Curse of Silence”.

The title of their new album sounds very symbolic especially if you consider the fact that it comes 3 years after their previous release entitled “Metal Dome”. The good thing is that the band still moves on the European power metal sound without, though, repeating themselves. From the first spins of the new album you will realize that bands like HELLOWEEN and especially GAMMA RAY are a major influence to their sound. The band, though, doesn’t reproduce the sound of the above mentioned bands, but uses it as inspiration to compose their own music. However EMERALD SUN don’t stick only to the above mentioned bands since in their songs you will find also influences from JUDAS PRIEST, IRON MAIDEN and MANOWAR. Actually the song “Land of Light” has this epic MANOWAR vibe and “Carry On” which sounds like IRON MAIDEN meet MANOWAR.

All in all EMERALD SUN continue to play what they love to listen to as fans which is old school European power metal which sounds fresh and carries the personality of the band. So if you love songs with catchy melodies and a heavy rhythm section that sound old school and yet are fresh then this is a release that will make your day, especially if you love the German power metal sound as it was crafted by bands like GAMMA RAY and HELLOWEEN.
