SILVERBONES – Wild Waves review

 SILVERBONES – Wild Waves

The English clergyman and writer Charles Caleb Colton (1780-1832) had said that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. RUNNING WILD, who are the ones who created what we call pirate metal should feel very flattered lately. Honestly, I've lost the count of bands that try to move musically to the sound they have created. SILVERBONES from Italy is a new band that naturally is inspired by RUNNING WILD and this is their first album.

In the debut release of a band it is hard for them to hide their influences. Although in our case SILVERBONES from the start make evident the main source of their inspiration and even they highlight it very strongly. The nine compositions included here are a mix of melody, speed and heaviness. From the first time you listen to the songs you have the feeling that you already know them, but you can’t accuse them of being mere copies. These are compositions that you listen to pleasantly and want to listen to again, especially if you're a fan of RUNNING WILD. Also the band’s singer gives a strong personal element in the sound and I think they should “exploit” him more in the future.

The negative aspects of this release are what others would consider as positive. It is, namely, the intense RUNNING WILD influences that are obvious in all the compositions. Personally speaking, I prefer to listen to bands that create compositions honoring their influences rather than some that simply play cover songs. This is the reason why I liked this album. I believe, however, that the band in its next release needs to create a more personal sound.
