I never really liked this band not because of the lyrical concepts but because I just didn't like the music.  I got this one to try out and I love it!  Not only is it dark, but the music is anything other than a "B" rating to me.  Not so certain about the critics.  And since the rhythms were good alongside the vocals, the leads are superb.  I didn't much care for 'The Satanist' though it got fair ratings.  I may have to get that album.  These guys are a dark band but what I'm concerned with are the songs and music.  The riffs are (to me) fresh and original.  Everyone on here contributed a lot to this probably giving it a "B" without question.

Η Κυρία Doro Pesch δεν χρειάζεται συστάσεις. Η ξανθιά Γερμανίδα τραγουδίστρια έδωσε από το 1981 δείγμα φωνής στους Warlock και τέσσερα άλμπουμ ως το 1987. Το τέταρτο και τελευταίο υπό το λογότυπο των Warlock με ακλόνητα και στιβαρά κομμάτια σαν τα  East Meets West, All We Are,  Three Minute Warning, Kiss Of Death , Cold Cold World, Metal Tango, Fur Immer κι άλλα κλασικά metal άσματα. Ιδιαίτερη μνεία ο δικός μας Νίκος Αρβανίτης στην κιθάρα και ένα άλμπουμ που καλώς ή κακώς, το αγαπάς ακριβώς για την "εμπορική" χροιά του.

Το τρίτο και τελευταίο άλμπουμ της εποχής με τον τραγουδιστή John Arch . Το ύστατο Power Metal τους πόνημα πριν γίνουν με το No Exit του 1987 (το πρώτο με τον Ray Alder στη φωνή) η επιτομή του  Prog Metal. Ο  ηγέτης τους κιθαρίστας, βασικός συνθέτης τους (και με καταγωγή από την Χίο) Jim Matheos είχε εισαγάγει αρκετά προοδευτικά στοιχεία στη μουσική τους ήδη από πριν, αλλά εδώ σχεδόν είναι η χρυσή τομή Prog/Power περισσότερο απ' ότι οι Queensryche ή οι Psychotic Waltz κατά τη γνώμη μου. The Sorceress, Fata Morgana, Exodus, Valley Of The Dolls, Guardian είναι τα μέγιστα σημεία του δίσκου.

A more death metal oriented approach this time around opposed to their last few releases.  Definitely quality metal the whole way through!  Vocals going good with the guitars.  The axes are a good "crunch" tone to them hence the blackened death metal sound.  Another likeable album for sure.  Their songwriting is definitely still top notch.  This album clocks in about 40 minutes.  All the songs are likable. I especially like the harmonies it makes it more melodic sounding. Mike's vocals still low sounding which is prevalent on their previous releases as well!  He's still maintaining the creative vents on the guitar.

Swedish Stoner Metal band DARK OCEAN CIRCLE released their debut self-titled album. The release was recorded, mixed and mastered at "Studio Humbucker" in Stockholm.

DARK OCEAN CIRCLE was formed in 2020 as a four-piece band in Stockholm, Sweden by Johan Bergsman (Vocals), Tobbe Park (Guitars), Janne Bohman (Bass) and Lionel Cayla (Drums).

Ο τελευταίος δίσκος των βραζιλιανων Thrashers, που συνολικά παίρνει το δέκα. Το Roots δύο χρόνια μετά αν κι είναι το το πρώτο τους που άκουσα, δεν είναι καλή προσπάθεια. Τα αδέρφια Max & Igor Cavalera, φωνη/κιθάρα και ντραμς, ο Andreas Kisser κιθάρα κι ο Paulo Jr. στο μπάσο αποτελούν την χρυσή σύνθεση του γκρουπ 1987-1998. Τα Refuse/Resist, Territory, Propaganda, Slave New World, Biotech Is Godzillla, The Hunt (διασκευή στους New Model Army!) από αυτό το δισκάκι είναι κλασικά.

Οι Accept το διέλυσαν τέλη του 1986, μετά την περιοδεία του Russian Rullete. Οι Hoffman και Baltes ήθελαν να  ακολουθήσουν μια αμιγώς αμερικάνικη κατεύθυνση που θα τελικά θα οδηγήσει στην εύρεση νέου τραγουδιστή (David Reece) και στο Eat The Heat άλμπουμ του 1988, μία από τις πιο νερουλες μουσικά προσπάθειες τους. Ο Udo Dirkschneider από την άλλη ήθελε να επιστρέψει στην προ Balls To The Wall εποχή μένοντας στις παραδοσιακές Metal φόρμες. Τα τραγούδια που οι Accept είχαν γράψει κατά την τουρνέ το 1986, μπήκαν στο πρώτο πρόσωπικο άλμπουμ του UDO. Μιλάμε για γκάφα ολκής των υπολοίπων!!!  Του έδωσαν αλλά κι έπαιξαν κιόλας μουσική σε μερικά από τα πιο αντιπροσοπευτικα κομμάτια που σαν Accept θα είχαν τεράστια απήχηση.

Στην εισαγωγή της παρουσίασης μου αυτής θα ήθελα να απευθυνθώ σε ανθρώπους που έχουν ασχοληθεί με το χώρο των fanzine και webzine. Δεν ξέρω αν το νιώθετε κι εσείς, αλλά εγώ προσωπικά συγκινούμαι να βλέπω συγκροτήματα που με εμπιστεύτηκαν στα πρώτα μου βήματα να παρουσιάσω τις δουλειές τους να συνεχίζουν ακόμη να υπάρχουν και να δημιουργούν. Ειδικά δε στην περίπτωση των REVOLTONS όπου τα πρώτα μας βήματα συνέπεσαν αφού όταν κυκλοφορούσαν τα demo τους εγώ είχα αρχίσει να λειτουργώ το webzine μου.

ATHIEL released new single

 

Italian Black Metal band Athiel released their new single «Nocturnal Mysteries» from the band's upcoming new album.  The release was recorded/mixed and mastered by Dann XI in his home studio.

ATHIEL was formed in 2021 at Sardinia, Italy as a one man project by Dann. The band was born to bring back the voices of darkness, and the song lyrics entirely dedicated to death, chaos and necromancy. In 2022 the band released their debut EP "Birth from Darkness".

COASTWISE releases single and music video "Waking Nightmare"

 

COASTWISE was formed with the intent of introducing hard rock to a whole new generation of potential fans, people who would otherwise not come into contact with this music style. After a very successful release of its EP 'War Machine', the band hits the ground running with its single “Waking Nightmare”.

This song was created to be as heavy as possible without alienating new listeners. Rock and metal fans alike know how difficult it is to bring new people into the fold, as modern heavy music can be somewhat of a barrier to newcomers, with its power and intensity. With this in mind, the band decided to try and find the middle ground, the point right before it becomes ‘too much’ for the rookies. The result is “Waking Nightmare”, the first single of their upcoming debut album 'Hard Rock Is Back'.

That is not to say it doesn’t have all that veterans love about the style. Powerful solo? Check. Strong riff? Check. Great vocals? Check. A nightmare with an eerie woman that follows you into the real world? Check check check. All the elements that make up the music we all love, and much more. And, of course, a cool music video produced by the band itself.

Οι ηγέτες της εγχώριας Ηeavy Metal σκηνής. Το ντεμπούτο τους, ηχογράφημενο το 1986, την εποχή που η σκηνή στο εξωτερικό είχε ήδη ωριμάσει, συγκροτήματα σαν αυτούς, τους Rust, τους Vavel, τους Sarissa και Marauder παλεύουν να γράψουν ένα δίσκο.

Δισκαρα από κάθε πλευρά, με σούπερ κλασικά κομμάτια σαν τα Walk Alone,  Lead Me On, Street Fighter, Lady Of The Night, Evil Thoughs Around,  αλλά ρε παιδιά της Minos ΕΜΙ τί πίνακας για εξωφυλλο αλμπουμ είναι αυτός;;; Παραγωγη: Γιάννης Κουτουβος,  Μίξη: Μάνος Ξυδους παρακαλω. Αθάνατο έργο κύριε Ηλία Λογγινιδη, σε ευχαριστούμε. Τραγικός επίλογος το αυτοκινητιστικό δυστύχημα του τραγουδιστή τους στον δίσκο,  Ντίνου Κωστάκη λίγο μετά, που τον άφησε σε άθλια κατάσταση υγείας μέχρι τον θάνατο του πρόσφατα το 2016... Αξέχαστος!

MEGADETH, COUNTDOWN TO EXTINCTION (1992)

Γιατί βγήκε στη 2η θέση τότε στα charts,  η αιώνια κόντρα Metallica vs Megadeth καλά κρατεί, το ομώνυμο Metallica ήδη είχε γίνει πλατίνα ένα χρόνο πριν και οι κ.κ. Dave Mustaine, Dave Ellefson, Marty Friedman και Nick Menza (RIP) έχοντας κάτω από τη ζώνη τους το Rust In Peace του 1990 κάνουν δημιουργική στροφή στη Metal ωριμότητα. Ένα τύποις best of... άλμπουμ με Skin O' My Teeth, Symphony of Destruction, Sweating Bullets, Countdown To Extinction, Foreclosure Of A Dream, Phsychotron, Architecture Of Aggression βέβαια που στέκεται δεκαετίες μετά και αποτελεί μέτρο σύγκρισης με τις νεότερες κυκλοφορίες τους.

Η μουσική σκηνή της Βραζιλίας αποδεικνύεται να είναι μια άγνωστη γη για εμάς τους Ευρωπαίους. Μια σκηνή, η οποία διαθέτει πολλούς κρυμμένους θησαυρούς για να ανακαλύψουμε. Λόγω της αγάπης μου στον παραδοσιακό heavy και power metal ήχο ομολογώ ότι γνωρίζω αρκετά συγκροτήματα από την χώρα αυτή, ένα μεγάλο ποσοστό των οποίων εκτιμώ για την υψηλή ποιότητα των δουλειών που μας προσφέρουν. Οι NIGRO, λοιπόν, που προέρχονται κι αυτοί από την Βραζιλία μου επισήμαναν ότι η εν λόγω χώρα διαθέτει επίσης αξιόλογα συγκροτήματα εκτός του μουσικού είδους που αγαπώ.

BEYOND THE VEIL released new single

 

International Extreme Metal band BEYOND THE VEIL released their new single «Moonlit Servitude». The single was recorded, mixed and mastered at "A Distorted Perception Studios" by Jimmy Zieger.

BEYOND THE VEIL was formed in 2022 at Los Angeles, CA by Jimmy Zieger (All instruments) and Adam Altemus (Guitars). Soon after the German vocalist Michael Bach joined the band, and the lineup was completed. The band started as a Deathcore act, but as they've evolved they have incorporated more elements of Black Metal, Death Metal and added a focus on horror to become the horrorcore act that they are today.

METALLICA, DEATH MAGNETIC (2008)

Μετά τη διάλυση τους το 1993 οι Αμερικάνοι επέστρεψαν με αυτό 15 χρόνια μετά!.. Καλό το βλέπω σαν εισαγωγή άλλο που δεν ισχύει....Το άλλο πέραν της metal μουσικής που επέστρεψε σίγουρα είναι το κλασικό λογότυπο τους που από το 1991 και το ομώνυμο άλμπουμ τους (αυτό το λεγόμενο και Black Album) είχε εμφανιστεί τελευταία φορά, κρυμμένο στο σκοτάδι. Ε ρε επιστροφή! Μετά τα μέτρια Load, Re- Load, Garage Inc. (αυτό δε μετράει στα άσχημα γιατί είναι διασκευές) , το ζωντανό με συμφωνική ορχήστρα S&M {όπου η ορχήστρα είχε μάλλον κάνει χρήση απαγορευμένες ουσίες, γιατί κάνει παραφωνία πίσω από το συγκρότημα!!!} και την απόλυτη πατάτα που λέγεται St. Anger κι αφού ειχε ήδη βαρεθεί και φύγει ο Jason Newsted από τη θέση του μπασίστα, οι κ.κ. Hetfield, Ulrich & Hammett, πήραν τον Robert Trujillo κι ορίστε!..

Το βίντεο για το All Nightmare Long, τότε το είχα ερωτευτεί!

KISS, MUSIC FROM THE ELDER (1981)

Τώρα τί να πεις ή να μήν πεις για τούτο; Οι Kiss μετά από την disco και pop προσπάθεια (Dynasty και Unmasked δηλαδή) τους και με τον ντράμερ Peter Criss να αποτελεί παρελθόν τότε και τον πολύ καλό αντικαταστάτη του (κι αγαπημένο μου προσωπικά) Eric Carr (RIP) να ντεμπουτάρει δισκογραφικά σε αυτό, το concept άλμπουμ με το οποίο ήθελαν να επιστρέψουν στη hard rock μεριά, όλα δε θα έμοιαζαν πολύ ρόδινα. Καλώς ή κακώς εδώ πραγματικά δε ξέρω αν το αντιπαθώ ή το συμπαθώ! Ένα απ' τα πιο πειραματικά έργα μεγάλου συγκροτήματος ever! Σαν τα Led Zeppelin III, Metallica Load/Re-Load, Jethro Tull -A,  αλλά αντίθετα απ' αυτά στη βαρύτερη μεριά του ήχου που δε μας είχαν  ως τότε συνηθίσει. Μια φανταστική ιστορία μεταξύ επιστημονικής φαντασίας και sword and sorcery παραμυθιου.... από τους KISS! Το στραπατσο ήταν εξασφαλισμένο από πλευράς πωλήσεων, οριακά μέλος του γκρουπ ήδη απ' το Unmasked, ο θρυλικός κιθαρίστας Ace Frehley δεν θα είναι στο επόμενο, την επιστροφή του Creatures Of The Night.

Talk about BRUTAL!  I’ve heard this album about 7 times through (digital) and just killer music.  They fall under the brutal death metal genre with a female vocalist.  There’s not a lot of brutal bands with female vocals in this category of metal, one off the top of my head is a Spanish based band called Barbarian Prophecies.  They’re not as over-the-top though, this band just tramples.  Casket Robbery tunes low in their songs on the guitar, totally smoking and thick.  The guitars fit well with the vocals.  Some songs to key into that you can also see on YouTube would be “Worm Food” and “Post-Mortem.”  You can get the feel of the band in those videos to see if their brutality is to your liking.

Οι Αμερικάνοι αυτοί, μαζί με τους έτερους πρωτοπόρους στο Doom Metal υπο-ιδιωμα τους Pentagram, έχουν βαλτώσει τους εφιάλτες μας τόσες δεκαετίες. Οι Saint Vitus με εφαλτήριο κι αυτοί  τους, Black Sabbath εποχής Master Of Reaity/Vol. 4  - όπου και το κομμάτι Saint Vitus Dance που το δανείστηκαν σαν όνομα - , αφού περιπλανήθηκαν στη δισκογραφία τους σε μήκη και πλάτη δισθεωρητα για ακόμη και τους ίδιους, γύρισαν με αυτό στην αρχική τους σύνθεση και ακόμα μια τελευταία (για λίγα χρόνια) φορά έγραψαν αργή, βαριά, σκοτεινή μουσική με απελπισμένα άρα κι αυτομάτως doom,  φωνητικά. Απ' τα οκτώ κομμάτια τα Dark World, One Mind, Let The End Begin, Train Of Pestilence, Return Of The Zombie μου μένουν στη συνείδηση.
