SEVENTH SERVANT – Seventh Servant Single Review

SEVENTH SERVANT – Seventh Servant Single

Independent

ICED EARTH for my generation is a band that has marked us with their music and we consider them as one of the leaders of the heavy/thrash metal sound. Some really good musicians have passed from this band through the years and one of them was the vocalist John Greely who was the singer of ICED EARTH in their masterpiece album entitled “Night of the Stormrider” which is an album that I listen to fanatically until now. So, I was more than surprised and felt enthusiastic when my sister brought me to listen to his new band under the name SEVENTH SERVANT.

SEVENTH SERVANT is a three member band where John plays the guitars and does the vocals with Ginger Sizemore on bass and Shawn Walker on drums. The band offers us here two compositions entitled “Revelation of Jesus Christ” and “The Almighty One”. Musically the band won’t disappoint the ICED EARTH fans at all, although SEVENTH SERVANT have their own musical identity. So, you will listen here to two compositions of top notch heavy/thrash metal; two compositions that balance between the aggressiveness of speed/thrash music and the melodies you can find in the traditional heavy metal sound. The melodies are really catchy and also the way that John sings (which really differs from the way he sang in ICED EARTH) give the band’s unique musical identity. Actually the imposing vocals of John fit perfectly to the lyrics of this single since they have to do with the revelation (or the apocalypse if you prefer) and gives them the necessary dramatic/epic touch. Finally, I liked the use of keyboards on the background for the same reason I mentioned above regarding John’s interpretation.

This single is really a great release that balances between the melodies and the aggressive speed/thrash riffs and has an atmosphere that immediately channels to the listener. Also both of the songs are so good that the more you listen to them, the more you enjoy them. SEVENTH SERVANT shows a lot of potential as a band and surely I would like to listen to more music from them. Check them out…
